I.
PURPOSE:
To establish guidelines for recruitment and appointment of residents
for Capital Health sponsored programs.
II.
FORMS/ATTACHMENTS:

None.
IV.
POLICY:
It is the policy of Capital Health to maintain ACGME requirements for
eligibility and selection to a postgraduate training program position.
The institution will monitor ACGME-accredited programs for compliance
with these requirements.
V.
PROCEDURE:
*
To be eligible for a postgraduate training position in a Capital
Health-sponsored program, candidates must have satisfied the
education requirements for registration as a resident in the State
of New Jersey under the NJ Board of Medical Examiners Regulations
(NJBME).
*
Each Medical School a candidate has attended must be accredited by
the Liaison Committee of Medical Education (LCME), or the American
Osteopathic Association (AOA) or recognized and listed in the
World Health Organization Directory of Medical Schools that meet
the criteria of the State of New Jersey for permits.
*
International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must be U.S. Citizens or
U.S. permanent residents to participate in Capital Health
postgraduate training and must hold a currently valid ECFMG
certificate.
*
Applicants with an unrestricted New Jersey medical license are
eligible for positions in Capital Health graduate medical
education training programs.
*
For admission to the first postgraduate year (PGY1), the applicant
must qualify for registration with the NJ Board of Medical
Examiners as defined in the NJBME Regulations.
*
For admission to PGY2 and subsequent years, the applicant must
qualify for a permit issued by the NJ Board of Medical Examiners.
*
All candidates for Capital Health-sponsored postgraduate programs
must apply for a position through the Electronic Residency
Application System (ERAS).
*
To be considered, applications must be complete including three
letters of recommendation and a valid ECFMG certificate if
applicable.
*
Candidates will be selected based on the quality of their ERAS
application and scheduled to interview with the Program Director
and/or a faculty designee.
*
Candidates who are invited for an interview for a residency
position will receive a copy of the Resident Agreement/Contract at
the time of the interview, which identifies the responsibilities
of Capital Health, the Residency Program and the Resident, should
a position be offered. Applicant requirements and a sample
Resident Agreement can also be found on
www.capitalhealth.org/professionals/residency/application.

Residents will be selected based on the quality of the
application, academic credentials, preparedness, aptitude,
personal characteristics and communication skills.
*

Capital Health participates in the National Residency Matching
Program.

Resident Agreements/Contracts will be prepared by the Department
of Graduate Medical Education or designee, forwarded to selected
residents and returned to be approved by the CEO of Capital Health
or his designee.

Capital Health will monitor compliance with this policy through
the Graduate Medical Education Committee.
