ST GABRIEL’S YOUTH CLUB – will be selling Christmas Stockings after
Mass this morning.
FUTURE DATES-
PENITENTIAL SERVICE DURING ADVENT - In preparation for Christmas and
to reconcile ourselves with the Lord, this service will take place on
Monday 15th December at 7pm. There will be Confessions in St Gabriel’s
on 17 December from 7pm onwards.
CHRISTMAS SERVICES –
December 24th Christmas Vigil Mass 6pm – St Gabriel’s
Christmas Day 9.30am- St Martin’s and 11.30am St Gabriel’s
BAPTISM – There is a list at the back of the Church for Parents to
complete who wish their child to be baptised.
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) - The RCIA will meet in
the side chapel room, in St.Gabriel’s, on Thursday 4th December. This
will be the final session of ‘Seeking &​Searching’, which is the first
part of the Archdiocesan course for candidates seeking acceptance to
enrolment for initiation. Candidates must ensure they are there this
Thursday.
RCIA - RITE OF ACCEPTANCE - This rite for candidates of the RCIA will
take place during Sunday Mass at 11.30am on 7th December.
FAITH EVENINGS - Helping Catholics get more out of their faith - The
next session of video talks and informal chats on "Knowing God Better"
will take place on Wednesday 7th January 2015.
ANNUAL NATIVITY BLESSING and CAROL SERVICE is to be held today at 3pm
in St Andrew’s Square, Edinburgh. Everyone is welcome to join Exile
Gospel Choir, St Mary’s, Leith Primary School Choir and Edinburgh Deaf
Choir to celebrate the start of Christmas in Edinburgh.
ST. MARTIN’S CIRCLE OF FRIENDS -"Christmas Party" Tuesday December 2nd
from 1.30pm to 4pm.
FOODBANK - Our donations have become a regular and dependable part of
the operations in the Food Bank in only a short space of time. Always
grateful for the usual list of items, they have asked us to focus on
tinned meat, tinned fish and tinned fruit as well as UHT fruit juice.
A collection box is located at the back of the church. Thank you to
everyone who kindly gives.
ST MARTIN’S SCHOOL – to complete their ECO Green House they are
looking for empty plastic 2 litre bottles. If you are able to help
please hand them into the School. Thank you.
SACRAMENT PREPARATION- PARISH SUPPORT WORKSHOP’S – Thursday’s
3.15pm-4.15pm, being held weekly in the Church Hall for children in
Primary 3 and 4 preparing for the Sacraments.
CHRISTMAS REUNION – is on 7th December at 2pm in the Bowling Club. If
you or your partner have reached the age of 65 and would like an
invitation, please put your name down on the list in the Porch. Books
of Raffle tickets are still available after Mass today to help finance
the Party. Please return all raffle books by next Sunday 7th.
FILM NIGHT – Tonight at 7pm. All Welcome: Tom Hanks in “Captain
Phillips” about hijacking of US containership, by Somali pirates.

PARISH/ALTAR SERVERS TRIP TO THE PANTO – A provisional booking has
been made at the Brunton Theatre, Musselburgh on Tuesday 30th December
at 5pm to see “Jack and the Beanstalk”. Tickets will be priced at
approximately £15 each. There is a list at the back of the Church for
names of those wishing to go. There will be a separate list for the
Altar Servers names.
Please note we have to confirm final numbers to the Theatre by 1st
December when we will be advised of the actual cost. Payment will be
required on Sunday 7th December.

In today’s second reading, we heard St Paul say: “Let your armour be
the Lord”. Hence, we pray as follows:

Joke of the Week
American driver gets pulled over by the Highway Police. He’s speeding:
80mph. The driver says “Gee Officer, I had it on cruise control at 60
mph – perhaps your radar gun needs recalibrating?”
Not looking up from her knitting the wife says:” Now don’t be silly
dear; you know that this car doesn’t have cruise control.”
As the Officer writes the ticket, the driver looks over at his wife
and growls, “Can you please keep your mouth shut for once.”
The wife smiles, demurely, and says, “You should be thankful your
radar detector went off when it did”. As the Officer makes out the 2nd
ticket for the illegal radar detector unit, the man glowers at his
wife and says through clenched teeth, “Darn it, woman, can’t you keep
your mouth shut?”
The Officer frowns and says, “I notice you are not wearing your seat
belt Sir?” That’s an automatic fine of $!00. The driver says, ”Yeah,
well, you see Officer, I had it on, but took it off when you pulled me
over so I could get my licence out my back pocket.” The wife says “Now
dear, you know very well that you didn’t have your seat belt on. You
never wear your seat belt when driving!”
And as the Cop is writing the 3rd ticket the driver turns to his wife
and says, “Why don’t you please SHUT UP!”
The Officer looks over at the woman and asks, “Does your husband
always talk to you this way Ma’am?”
“Only when he’s been drinking” says she.
