WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION FOR DOING HOMEBIRTHS?
What I get out of home birth (apart from being entirely drained
physically and emotionally) is the greatest feeling of satisfaction
the world could ever imagine. It is like giving birth yourself over
and over. And when you can watch a girl become a mother, a boy change
into a father, and two giggly children change into parents its like
changing the world.

WHAT DO HOMEBIRTHS OFFER CLIENTS AND FAMILY?
The birth of a baby as a family event. A family celebration. I believe
that babies should be welcomed by their families into loving arms. For
the majority of people in the world birth is just a physiological
process and the spiritual side of that process is very important. If
it truly is a "rite of passage" then their should - in my opinion- be
ceremony, and ritual involved.
Like all family events there is food to prepare, people to invite,
various roles performed by various members and especially when this is
a first baby all those roles are new and so special. I believe that
when a child is welcomed into his or her family gently, with love and
respect that that has a profound effect on the child. We have relaxed
and gentle babies. I think much of the stress and aggression in the
world today has come about by the medicalisation of the birthing
process. I think that separation anxiety has a dramatic effect on
mothers as well as babies and I think that postnatal depression is a
colossal problem in our world that has an enormous impact on the
family as a whole.
