POST SECONDARY OPTIONS
Any 11th or 12th grade student who is under the age of 22, who is
deemed by the student and his/her parent or guardian, with the advice
and counsel of the principal, to be in need of course work at a higher
academic level than that available at his/her school or who is deemed
by the high school to be in need of a different environment shall be
eligible to apply to an institution of higher education in Colorado.
The student shall give two month's written notice to the school of
his/her intent to apply and shall specify the courses in which she/he
intends to enroll.
Academic credit granted for course work successfully completed by a
student under this program shall count as high school credit toward
graduation requirements unless credit is denied by the principal, on
the basis that such credit is inappropriate, and the denial is upheld
by the Director and Union Colony Schools Board. A student
participating in this program shall be considered as enrolled in Union
Colony Schools and shall be eligible for all high school activities.
The program is not available to students enrolled in an institution of
higher education during the summer term.
When a student enrolls in a course at an institution of higher
education for high school credit, Union Colony Schools and the
participating institution shall enter into a written cooperative
agreement which shall include, but not be limited to, payment of
tuition. The agreement shall include statements that any courses taken
by students under this program also shall qualify as credit toward
earning a degree or certificate at the institution of higher
education.
Union Colony Schools will reimburse students for tuition upon proof of
successful completion of classes at an institution of higher learning.
(Proof is a transcript stating passing grades in said classes.)
Seniors are required to take at least 4 college level courses (as
determined by the faculty council) of 3 or more semester hours each.
Union Colony will reimburse up to a total of 18 credit hours for
seniors during their senior year. Juniors may take a maximum of 2
classes for a total of 6 hours during their junior year and be
reimbursed as well. Those classes don’t count toward the senior year
requirement of 4 classes.
Union Colony Schools shall not provide or pay for transportation to
the institution of higher education.
Information about the post secondary options program including the
appeals procedure if high school credit is denied, shall be
distributed annually to all students in grades 10 through 12 and to
their parents or guardians. Notice shall be given to allow sufficient
time for students and parents or guardians to consider this option.
