An HTML file is just an ASCII text file, so we may use any text
editors to write, and modify it, and in this case we will use Notepad.
The tricky thing is that Notepad itself cannot display HTML file, so
we must use browser to view the result. While working with certain
HTML file, we, at the same time, will swap to browser to see how the
changes affect.
Now I am going to walk through the process of create, view, and edit
the file using Notepad. First, we will open the Notepad and throw some
HTML tags into it. Start with HTML, and then HEAD, and then BODY tags.
Then I put some HTML elements inside BODY tags. We will have Paragraph
(
), we have Font size equal to two with the word ‘Hello world’
inside. Now to save the file, just go to File, Save As…, and in the
filename textbox, you type "index.htm" with double quotation around.
This is to make sure the file will be end up with just only the file
‘index.htm’ without any extra extension like dot txt (.txt) Once you
save the file, now you going to view the result. Launch the Internet
Explorer, and browse the file that you just created on the desktop.
See that now we use two windows, one to view the result which is
Internet Explorer, another one to edit which is Notepad. Now if you
want to change some elements, I am going to put the background color
onto the body tag as an attribute, bgcolor equal to yellow, then you
save. To view the change, you just go back to browser and just simply
press refresh or you can just press F5.
Keep in mind that you will be using one program to edit, another to
view the result.
