HOW MUCH IS THIS LIKELY TO COST ME?
Any travel advice and available vaccinations offered by the NHS as
noted above are free of charge.
A prescription for any non-NHS vaccine will cost £15 per prescription
item.
Each single vaccination administered will cost £10
The cost of the above will be capped at £100, payable to Princes
Street Surgery. Pharmacies will charge you separately for the cost of
the vaccine(s).
Should you require a certificate to state which vaccines you have
received, this will incur a £15 admin fee.
Once your questionnaire has been completed and the nurse has processed
this information against guidance on travel, you will be advised of
which vaccines/anti-malarials you require and the fee for this. This
fee must be paid before your non-NHS vaccines are prescribed or
administered.
Please be aware that Travel Health Advice is available at other local
travel clinics and you may wish to compare charges prior to making
your decision.

TRAVEL HEALTH SERVICE
If you are travelling outside the UK you may need to be immunised
against some of the infectious diseases that are found in other parts
of the world. We currently offer a travel health service and aim to
provide our patients with advice for safe travel.
The nurses running the clinic have had special training in the area of
travel
health and can advise you of any risks which may be present in the
countries you are visiting.
The necessary vaccines required will depend on the purpose of your
travel, the areas you are visiting, where you will be staying and how
long you will be there for.
Some vaccination schedules may take several weeks, or even months to
complete, so it is essential you complete the travel questionnaire
early enough to ensure that you have full protection. We are not
always able to offer last minute appointments, so you may be advised
to contact other travel clinics who can supply this service.
NHS VACCINATIONS
Some travel vaccinations are available free of charge under the NHS.
The following vaccinations are FREE OF CHARGE:
Combined Diptheria / Tetanus / Polio
Hepatitis A (adult)
Hepatitis A (child, but needs to be ordered in specifically)
Typhoid
NON-NHS (PRIVATE) VACCINATIONS
Travel vaccines that are not routinely covered by the NHS will require
a private prescription. This will be issued to you after completion
and assessment of your travel questionnaire. This will incur a £15
admin fee for each item on prescription, payable to Princes Street
Surgery, to be paid upon collection of the prescription from
reception.
You will then need to take your prescription to a pharmacy of your
choice, who will charge you for the cost of the vaccine(s) before they
will dispense it. It is often wise to shop around different
pharmacies, as costs may differ.
The vaccines usually need to be stored in the fridge, therefore we
recommend you bring them straight to us for storage, or ask if the
local pharmacies will deliver directly to us where we will keep them
for you.
The following vaccines are not available on the NHS :
Rabies (usually a course of 3)
Hepatitis B (usually a course of 3)
Meningititis ACWY (single injection)
Tick borne encephalitis (course of 3)
Japanese encephalitis (course of 2)
Other vaccinations may also incur a fee.
In addition to the £15 fee for any of the above private prescriptions,
there is a cost of £10 for administering each vaccine; however the
total cost per person for both prescribing and administering of a
whole course of vaccinations for a trip will be capped at £100 (this
does not include Yellow Fever or Anti-Malarials)
YELLOW FEVER
If required, this is also available privately at the surgery as we are
a registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. The fee for Yellow Fever
is £55 which will include your vaccine, consultation and certificate.
ANTI-MALARIALS
Some anti-malarial tablets are bought over the counter from
pharmacies, but most require a prescription. Anti-malarials are not
provided on the NHS. We will discuss the best options available for
you depending on the area to be visited, and any prescription issued
will carry a private prescription charge of £15 (to be included in the
capped figure of £100).
You will then need to pay for your anti-malarials at your chosen
pharmacy.
