HUESCA BUSINESS SCHOOL
Huesca Business School, with more than 800 students, is integrated
within the University of Zaragoza, whose total number of students
amounts to over 44.000. The main defining feature of this university
centre is its dynamic academic programme, which offers a wide range of
degrees and specialized courses in the fields of Business Studies,
Public Management and Labour Relations.
Meeting the shifting needs of a complex international work market has
become a permanent challenge for our business school. Therefore, a
range of specialized courses have recently been launched by our centre
in an attempt to provide students with a competitive advantage. The
use of information and communication technologies has also been a key
factor in the development of our school as an educational institution.
Integrated within a university e-learning network (Anillo Docente
Digital  ADD), the degree in Public Management has become an
interesting distance learning choice for both university students and
Public Administration professionals who can reach their goals by
working in a flexible web environment (Web CT).
Our academic programmes are part of a more comprehensive educational
and cultural project which includes:

international exchange programmes with a number of European
universities which allow students to improve their foreign
language proficiency and business knowledge and skills
*
a lively cultural programme (concerts, sports events, seminars,
conferences, exhibitions, etc.).
Huesca Business School also attempts to bridge the gap between
educational and professional experience by providing students with
training opportunities in local businesses and public institutions and
by helping them to design their own business project with the support
of school grants and teachers’ expert advice.
FACILITIES
----------
In order to facilitate an effective use of new technologies and
computing services by students and teachers, Huesca Business School
has two computer labs equipped with a total of 30 computers connected
to the Internet. In addition, there is a third one equipped with 10
more computers devoted to distance learning activities. Distance
education courses are currently available for Public Management
students. There are also six more computers in the main floor for free
student use. And wireless technology allow students to have access to
the Internet using their own computer.
At present, the University of Zaragoza is carrying out a project which
involves the rebuilding of our centre, so that we will be able to
house students in a completely renewed and modern building next
academic year, and it has also been built new sport facilities that
started to be in used last academic year (2005/2006).
The list of school facilities also includes: rooms equipped with video
recorders, a conference room capable of seating 100 people, library
services, well-appointed rooms for individual study, a copy centre,
cafeteria and student canteen, lifts, parking place, and so on.
ACADEMIC PROGRAMME
The academic programme Huesca Business School offer includes:
- Master Degree in Tourism Management and Planning
A highly successful academic choice among students living in an area
where a growing tourism industry is a key economic sector. This
programme comprises two academic courses which include theoretical
sessions, seminars and training periods in companies, institutions and
organizations belonging to the field of tourism industry.
Students specialize in Cultural and Mountain Tourism.
- Degree in Business Studies
Students can specialize in public accounting management, marketing
management and tourism businesses management.
- Degree in Public Management
- Degree in Public Management (Degree conducted online)
- Degree in Labour Relations.
Students who have obtained any of the above mentioned degrees can
continue their studies by taking the following specialized courses:

MASTER DEGREE IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT AND PLANNING
CONTENT
It is a two years’ master degree mainly focusing on Business
Organization and Management, Marketing, Finance, Law, Languages
(English and French), Sociology, Human Resources, Information
Technologies and Economics for the Tourism Business, finishing with a
final Master Project applied to a placement in a business.
The subjects developed throughout the Master will allow students to
become:
Specialist in Cultural and Mountain Tourism
OBJECTIVES
Providing students with a flexible, comprehensive background on
tourism business issues which will enable them to meet the
professional requirements generally made in today’s tourism business
world for tourism managers.
The skills promoted and knowledge provided throughout the courses will
enable students to develop business plans within the tourism industry,
paying special attention to the areas of management, human resources
and quality achievement.
Our aim is to train high level professionals for business management
and planning, tourism activities and institutions, as well as the
training of experts that guide their career to the research field and
to the development of the knowledge in the tourism sphere, with a
particular impact in the tourism sector linked with cultural and
nature resources.
DEGREE IN BUSINESS STUDIES
CONTENT
It is a three years’ degree mainly focusing on Marketing, Accounting
and Finance, Business Organization and Management, Economics, and the
knowledge in Statistics and Mathematics needed to deal with corporate
work, legislation in general and business law in particular. Depending
on the optional subjects they choose, students can be granted
different special titles in their degree:
Specialist in Public Accounting
Students should be able to work not just as accountants in business
firms, but also as experts in accounting in specific business contexts
such as corporate groups, public organizations, banks and auditor’s
offices.
Specialist in Marketing Management
Students are provided with specific knowledge concerning the area of
marketing so that they are able to deal with the ‘four Ps’, strategic
planning, market research and other important aspects of Marketing.
Specialist in Tourism Industry
Specialized subjects dealing with the planning and organization of
tourist businesses, professional matters of special interest for our
students, given the central role played by tourism industry in our
region.
OBJECTIVES
Providing students with a flexible, comprehensive background on
business issues which will enable them to meet the professional
requirements generally made in today’s business world. Creativity,
teamwork spirit, negotiation skills, capacity for analysis, and the
ability to search for and process information can be listed among the
most relevant transferable skills students will develop throughout
their academic programme.
DEGREE IN PUBLIC MANAGEMENT
CONTENT
It is a three years’ degree mainly focusing on administrative law,
constitutional law, labour law, human resources management, public
institutions and public services management, accounting and finance.
This degree can be obtained by attending classes at the school or a
combination of traditional and online classes.
Such a distance learning option will allow students to obtain
competitive qualifications in a convenient, flexible way thanks to the

OBJECTIVES
Providing students with a comprehensive and flexible background on
administrative and financial management of private and public
organizations, and with a thorough knowledge of the public sector.
The ability to search for information and deal with the planning and
distribution of work tasks, teamwork spirit, communication and
analysis skills are among the range of skills students will develop
throughout their academic programme.
DEGREE IN LABOUR RELATIONS
CONTENT
It is a three years’ degree mainly dealing with the areas of business
law, labour law, civil law, administrative law, commercial law, social
research techniques, economics, sociology, social services, human
resources and social security.
OBJECTIVES
Providing students with a specialized background on management,
organization and professional advice within the field of labour
relations. The main skills developed by students throughout the
academic programme include the ability to search for information,
negotiation and communication skills, and work tasks planning.
SPECIALIZED COURSES

Diploma in New Public Management, specially targeted at Public
Administration staff working in our region. The general aim of
this course is to provide students with a comprehensive view of a
range of public management strategies they can develop in their
own jobs. The contents discussed include financial management,
prevention of occupational hazards, labour law, total quality and
marketing, human resources and IT.
*
Diploma in Management of Technical and Human Resources for the
Development of Tourism Industry. This course is specially targeted
at those students and professionals willing to enter the work
market of the expanding tourism industry, one of the most
promising regional and national sectors.
*
Diploma in Economic and Demographic Policies To Cope with the
Problem of Depopulation. This online course focuses on the
identification and analysis of the various problems associated to
the growing depopulation of certain areas as a first step to
search for specific adequate solutions concerning the
socioeconomic and demographic aspects involved.
INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMMES

Our school has developed educational exchange programmes for teachers
and students in partnership with different European Universities in
France, Ireland, Holland, Finland, Poland, Switzerland, Rumania,
Hungary, Turkey, Portugal, Belgium and Germany.
TRAINING IN COMPANIES AND INSTITUTIONS
--------------------------------------
As part of its academic syllabus, Huesca Business School offers
students the possibility to complete their studies with a work
placement in business firms or institutions. Students can also apply
for this kind of training positions through UNIVERSA (http://www.unizar.es/universa).
To be eligible for a work placement within our programmes, it is
necessary to have obtained 50% of the credits in their degree.
Students are allowed to choose the company and the field or department
in which they would like to be placed as well as the dates of the
training period. At every stage, they will be supported by an
individual University tutor (as well as a tutor in the company) who
will give them instructions and feedback about their project and the
final report on their training experience they have to write.
Once this project and report are presented to a board of examiners and
passed by them, the student will be granted 6, 12 or 18 credits
depending on the duration of the company training period (1, 2 or 3
months respectively). If you are a Labour Relations student, you can
only be granted 6 credits for your training (1 month spent in a
company). Students involved in UNIVERSA training programmes do not
have to pass any examinations but they are not granted any credits
either. The benefit they get is that of acquiring professional
experience, which, together with their academic background, will help
them get into the labour market.
