A conversation with: Samantha Brown, Practice Manager
Samantha discussed background explaining that she started at the
practice in April 2011 in a Reception/Administrative role, whilst at
college. Samantha explained that she then decided to undertake
Business Management degree at Staffordshire university. Samantha
discussed her development through the practice and was given the
opportunity to take on the role as Trainee Manager, shadowing the
previous Practice Manager, Tracy, for 6 months before taking over as
Practice Manager. Whilst a Trainee Manager Samantha completed the
Leadership & Management distance learning course through the Institute
of Leadership and Management. Samantha has also recently completed the
IOSH Managing Safely course.
As Practice Manager, Samantha is responsible for non-clinical staffing
(alongside the Business Partner), administrative lead for child and
adult safeguarding, health & safety, complaints & significant event
reporting, all staff training, all CQC & GDPR related documentation
and more. Samantha advised that a new role has been created to assist
the management team, the position has been filed and the individual is
starting tomorrow (1st Nov). Samantha has also taken on the role of
Practice Manager Lead for the GP locality, this role has allowed her
knowledge of the CCG and NHS England to grow.

Matters Arising from Meeting 22nd August
Previous minutes circulated 23rd August
Pharmacist – SB attending a meeting week commencing 12th November to
discuss what funding is available.
Patients Comments Box – SB looking into this.
Town Council Meeting
Flu Clinics – MT & LR explained that patients were very happy to give
mobile and email addresses for the practice to contact.
County Services Building – SB will update as and when any information
available.

Notes from locality meeting
Minutes were circulated on 22nd September.
IR discussed minutes from locality meeting
Domestic Violence number has been made available on all practice
facebook pages within the locality. Peter Dartford attended the
locality meeting to discuss Social Prescribing, which is commissioned
by the CCG, they are looking to work with the voluntary sector and
recruiting link workers.
The next locality meeting on 20th November is the AGM.
Community Hospital consultation has been deferred until December.
GP practices have sent a letter to the CCG explaining that they are no
longer able to provide phlebotomy unfunded. SB explained that she has
attended a meeting at the CCG where Phlebotomy was being discussed as
something the CCG are looking at standardising/re-commissioning across
the 6 CCGs in Staffordshire.
X-rays at LMH were also discussed as a patient was declined an x-ray
and had to travel to the Haywood Hospital. SB contacted the X-ray
department where they confirmed the only x-ray they cannot perform is
a spinal x-ray.

Notes from locality meeting 17.07.2018
IR discussed minutes from locality meeting. Extended Access hubs are
to be implemented from September. GP surgeries and 111 will be able to
book into these slots.
Community Hospitals – meeting being held by Leek Town Council
regarding the hospital on the 4th September – information in Leek
Post.

PPG Recruitment
KG discussed Recruitment work. SB has sent out the first bath of PPG
recruitment emails on 26th October. 9 responses were received the same
day and forwarded to KG via the new ppg inbox. KG sent the further
email explaining a little more about when the group meets and if
interested to fill out the form. Two signed registration forms have
already been received to become ‘Actual’ members.
KG/SB will continue to liaise regarding this piece of work.

PPG Roller Banner
All discussed this proposed wording for the PPG banner. IR to do
another draft and bring to next meeting. SB/LR to look at pictures for
the banner

8.
Extended Hours
SB provided a brief update on the usage of the new extended access
hubs.
The service went live on the 1st September. Since the service has gone
live 202 patients registered at Leek Health Centre have utilised the
service.
In September 97 patients were seen in one of the hubs, 4 of which were
nurse appointments and in October 105 patients were seen by a GP in
one of the hubs.
The clinicians at the hub are able to provide a prescription, request
bloods and access referral forms. They are unable to process a
referral so an electronic message is sent to the patients registered
practice and a member of the practice team will process this.
Practices are paid 50p per patient to complete this work.
9.
December Meeting – Election of Officers
IR asked the group whether they would be in agreement to bringing the
election of all officers to one meeting rather than being staggered
throughout the year. All agreed happy with this.
Chair, Deputy Chair & Membership Co-Ordinator to be elected at next
meeting.
10.
‘Use my data’ app
LR discussed the new app and asked SB to provide a rough idea of how
many patients consent to their records being shared.
