Summary of Public Comments and Agency Responses:
The following is a comment received from a member of the public and
the Department’s response.
1.
Christopher Gadbois,
Member of the Public
2.
Evelyn Grammar
Secretary, Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is
1.
Comment: The commenters requested changes to some of the dates to
the Baha’i holidays listed on the “List of Religious Holidays
Permitting Student Absences From School.” The Universal House of
Justice, the governing body of the Baha’i religion, changed from
using the Gregorian Calendar to determine Baha’i holidays to using
the astronomical tables based on the vernal equinox to determine
dates of holidays. This change is effective beginning on March 20,
2015. (1, 2)
Response: The Department agrees with the commenter and has made the
appropriate changes to the Baha’i holidays. Below is the list of
holidays and dates which were changed to the “List of Religious
Holidays Permitting Student Absences From School.” Correct dates are
bolded and incorrect dates are bracketed.
