LESSON TITLE: OUR WORLD IN SHAPES
AGES: 3-5 years old
MY CREATIVE-THINKING PROCESS:
1.
Mess-finding: time restraints, attention-span, drawing ability,
knowledge of basic art concepts
2.
Problem-finding: How can I make sure students know their basic
shapes and how they exist in the world around us.
3.
Idea-finding: We will look at images of art and daily life where
shapes are easily identified. The students will then create their
own objects using the shapes they have learned about.
4.
Data-finding: images, paper, pencil, colors (optional)
RESOURCES AND MATERIALS FOR TEACHER:
Images:
Wassily Kandinsky-swinging
Gustav Klimt-the kiss
Vincent Van Gogh-Starry Night
(Add more as time allows and add some pictures of everyday objects
with these shapes as well!)
RESOURCES AND MATERIALS FOR STUDENTS:
Paper
Pencil
Coloring utensils (optional)
PART ONE: identify the shapes that we will be looking at. (Triangles,
circles, squares, rectangles)
PART TWO: show images and let the students identify the shapes in
them.
PART THREE: Brainstorm. What objects can you think of that are these
shapes? Create a list for each shape.
PART FOUR: Give them one sheet of paper for each shape. Do one shape
at a time. Draw the shape onto the middle of the paper, then let them
create an object around that shape. It can be real or imaginary but
they have to explain what it is.
