COURSE DESCRIPTION: Piano 1 is meant as an intro to music and piano
performance. An emphasis is placed on developing the basics of music
reading, sight-reading, scales, chord identification, and learning
individual repertoire.
Students will…
*
learn to read music and sight-read
*
identify and play different chords.
*
develop healthy practice skills.
*
communicate with the instructor on selecting appropriate
repertoire.
*
learn to prepare and perform piano repertoire.
*
develop a productive and enjoyable environment in the piano lab.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: The goal of Piano 1 is to provide students the
opportunity to learn the basics of piano and music reading.
ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS:
*
Students should complete assignments thoroughly and completely.
*
All students are expected to participate and be engaged, as it is
a part of your grade. (Please see the attendance expectation to
see how this expectation is to be met during remote/virtual
learning)
*
Assignments that are turned in late will be docked a letter grade
after the first day. Anything more than a day late will not be
accepted and will result in the grade of a zero.
*
Plagiarism can be defined as “to steal and pass off (the ideas or
words of another) as one’s own” (Merriam-Webster). Students should
complete their own work with honesty. Plagiarism is an egregious
offense and will render any assignment null, receiving the grade
of zero, and subject to further disciplinary action.
*
Assignments should be produced legibly and intact. Students are
expected to submit and complete all assignments. It is the
responsibility of the student to complete and submit any work they
have missed due to an absence.
ATTENDANCE EXPECTATIONS: Students are expected to attend all class
meetings. Any absences must be excused in order to make up any missed
assignments. Three times of being tardy will count as an absence and
will negatively impact your participation grade.
Remote/Virtual class meetings are expected to attend class meetings
during school hours. Students may choose to attend the actual class or
view the class video before 3:40p.m. on the day the class meets. It
is, however, preferred that each student attends class at the
scheduled time in order to receive in-depth, interactive, and
collaborative assistance.
