ACADEMIC STAFF
ADDITIONAL INCREMENTS FOR SUSTAINED EXCEPTIONAL RESEARCH PERFORMANCE
Academic Staff may be awarded an additional increment within their
current scale, only in circumstances where they have demonstrated
sustained exceptional research performance (based on international
discipline norms) exceeding expectations of someone on stretch
targets. This will have been demonstrated in terms of outstanding
research quality and quantity, grant income and output that has made
an exceptionally outstanding improvement in the quality of the
strategic objectives of the department/school/faculty. A request for
an additional increment must detail how the case meets these criteria.
The recommendation of the Head of Department/School and Dean is
required. On receipt of these recommendations, HR will convene a
meeting of the additional increment committee (AIC) to review the case
and make either a positive or negative recommendation based on the
case/evidence provided.
The AIC will consist of the Faculty Deans, Vice President (Research)
and the Director of Human Resources. The AIC is not invalidated by the
absence of a member. Members may submit their comments and
recommendations in writing if they know in advance that they cannot
attend the meeting.
