Dear Sir/Madam
Quayside Sunday Market – Central Stalls provided by Newcastle City
Council
Newcastle’s Quayside Sunday Market operates every week and continues
to be a part of the city’s programme of markets and events. The
quayside attracts a large number of visitors and shoppers from all
over the country who enjoy both traditional and specialist markets.
I have attached some information which explains the criteria you must
satisfy if you want to trade on the central stalls at the Quayside
Sunday Market, together with an application form for you to complete
and return.
If you have any questions about the market or the application form,
please call me on 0191 2115512. Please return completed forms by post
or email.
The Quayside Sunday Market is very popular but there is a maximum of
29 central stalls available at any one time. This means that some
applicants may be unsuccessful, see “how we allocate stalls” overleaf.
Once I have considered your application form I will write to you to
let you know if your application has been successful or not and I will
keep your details on the mailing list so that you are sent application
forms in the future.
Yours faithfully

Jane Rose
Markets Support Officer

How we allocate stalls
*
In order to maximise the appeal of the market to shoppers we aim
to have a varied mix of high quality local arts, crafts, and
speciality food products together with a balance of regular and
new traders. Stalls are allocated on this basis.
*
What if I’m a new trader trying to get on? Don’t give up, keep
applying and you may find an opportunity to trade eventually.
Other rules you must follow when using the stall:
*
No vehicles of any kind can be left on the market
*
The Quayside Road is closed each Sunday from 8am to 5pm.
*
You can load and unload your vehicle until 9:30am then all
vehicles must be removed from the market.
*
You will not be able to trade at the market if you arrive after
9am.
*
We work closely with the trading standards and food safety teams
and give them a list of all traders. They regularly visit the
market to inspect traders and their produce.
*
Please note that generators, chillers and freezers must be placed
within the area you are allocated and must be properly maintained
and silenced.
*
Central stall traders will be allocated a parking pass for the
duration of their licence.
*
If you are unable to trade you must tell us immediately so that we
can make other arrangements for your stall/space. You must still
pay the licence fee.
*
You must make your own arrangements for hand washing and toilet
facilities.
*
You are responsible for getting rid of your own rubbish it is an
offence under Sections 33(1) (a) and 33(6) of the Environmental
Protection Act 1990, as amended, to deposit waste, or knowingly
cause or knowingly permit a deposit of waste, onto land that is
not permitted for that purpose. This includes the “tipping or
dumping” of any waste by traders.
The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 contain a number of
provisions relating to fly-tipping, including increasing the penalty
