We are writing with regards to your patient
who has been hospitalized here at Dell Children’s Medical Center with
a diagnosis of
In order to provide adequate analgesia and sedation he/she required
several days of treatment with narcotics and/or benzodiazepines. In
order to prevent withdrawal symptoms he/ she was placed on a
methadone/lorazepam taper. As
discharge, we are continuing to wean therapy on an outpatient basis.
The parents/guardians have been instructed on proper administration of
the medication as well as symptoms of withdrawal.
Although the risk of withdrawal is low, please contact us if you see
any sign or symptoms that you feel might be related to withdrawal.
Common symptoms of withdrawal include:

Severe sleep disturbance
*
Irritability, tremors
*
Hallucinations
*
Feeding difficulties (poor feeing, diarrhea, vomiting)
