THE FUN STUFF TO DO
When you're looking for the really fun stuff to do on campus, there is
only one place to go find it- INTRAMURALS! Sometimes, people don't
know much about the word INTRAMURALS but after awhile; you simply use
it to describe any sports activity on campus that doesn't require you
to be the perfect athletic specimen.
The INTELLIREC INTRAMURAL Planner is designed to provide students with
specific guidelines and information that will assist them in
participating in the program. INTELLIREC is a term we use to describe
our comprehensive recreational sports program. We believe that the
Intramural program is a learning experience for all students. We
encourage students to blend their academic pursuits and social
activities in order to achieve a certain balance, thus, the term
INTELLIREC - an intelligent approach to Recreation!
The GOAL of the Intramural Department, in providing a program of
Intramural sports, is to encourage students to complement their
academic pursuits with the social and physical benefits of recreation.
The OBJECTIVE of the Intramural program is to provide opportunities
that are diverse in both type of activity and level of
competitiveness. We wish to be able to serve as many students as
possible, to encourage increased student participation, to establish
sound recreational planning and to adopt, whenever possible, new ideas
and activities that would improve the quality of the program.
IM CHAIRPERSONS are the essential links between an organization and
the Intramural program staff. Every organization and/or team should
designate a CHAIRPERSON to represent his or her team throughout the
year. Everyone should remember that with the large number of entry
deadlines, start dates and playing times during the year, it would be
best to have a couple of people to handle the task. One of the
CHAIRPERSON'S most important tasks is to attend ALL MANDATORY
MEETINGS. While there are only a few MANDATORY meetings, they are
essential to obtaining information, rules and roster card guidelines.
Because the information at CHAIRPERSON meetings is so important to the
success of an organization, penalties will be assessed to teams who’s
CHAIRPERSONS fail to attend and complete the TEAM SPORT entry process.

THE IM TEAM SPORT COUNCIL is a self-governing body established to
ensure that students have the opportunity to appeal administrative
actions taken by the Intramural staff toward an individual, team
and/or organization in team sport activities. The council shall be
comprised of one representative from each division in each team sport.
Prior to the beginning of each team sport the chairpersons shall elect
the representative and an alternate. The Assistant Director of
Intramurals shall serve as the chair of the council. Three members or
alternates must be present to hear an appeal.
The council has the authority to hear appeals related to policies and
procedures as set forth in this publication. GAME RULES GOVERNING TEAM
SPORTS ARE NOT SUBJECT TO APPEAL TO THE COUNCIL. All TEAM SPORT
COUNCIL decisions are final.
Specific information on how to file appeals of administrative
decisions and rules as to how the appellate hearing will be handled
are available to all students in the IM office.
SCHEDULES AND PLAYOFFS
THE IM AEROBICS PROGRAM began in the fall of 1992 and was a BIG HIT
with the nontraditional Intramural participant. IM AEROBICS is
designed to provide an excellent aerobics experience at a lower cost
to students. Due of the popularity of the program, ENTRY OPPORTUNITIES
ARE LIMITED.
IM FLAG FOOTBALL is probably the MOST TRADITIONAL of any Intramural
sport on the calendar, and this recreational version of the game is
played with equal proficiency by both men and women. From
mid-September through late October, the ONLY games that really matter
on campus take place weekly at the Intramural fields.
GAME SCHEDULES: Intramural schedules for team sports, individual
sports and/or special events will ALWAYS be posted in the bulletin
boards outside the IM office in the Huston Huffman Center. Team Sport
schedules are drawn up weekly and posted each Friday after 1:00p.m.
during the regular season. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO RESCHEDULING OF ANY
TEAM SPORT GAMES.
Individual sport and special event schedules are posted prior to the
beginning of the activity and updated regularly. NO SCHEDULES WILL BE
GIVEN OUT OVER THE PHONE. In Team Sports, teams will play other teams
of like or similar records each week. Any postponement occurring
during the regular season will constitute a win for each team;
however, the IM staff could implement an alternative method to
determine advancing teams in extreme situations. Any games postponed
during playoffs will be rescheduled for a later date except during
double elimination tournaments where time may force the cancellation
of the loser’s bracket.
GAME TIME-FORFEIT TIME: In all Team Sport activities, teams are
REQUIRED to be at the scheduled field/court with the correct number of
players, equipment and information on the scorecard by the scheduled
game time. GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME! If no one shows up for a team by
game time, a NO- SHOW (NS) will be assessed and the team dropped from
further play. A team will receive a FORFEIT (F) if less than a full
team is present at game time. If a special problem arises that would
prevent your team from playing, contact the IM office prior to the
game to arrange an EXCUSED FORFEIT. An excused forfeit will ensure you
that your team will not be dropped from the schedule the following
week.
PLAYOFFS: At the completion of the regular season in most team sports,
teams with a .500 or better record will qualify for extended play.
Teams that advance to post season play should have a representative at
the BRACKET PLACEMENT MEETING. Teams will be responsible for knowing
their playing dates and times and shall be placed on the bracket
randomly if they fail to attend the meeting.
