I have mentioned before, and we discussed on 7 January, the fact that
Plexus would like to host the new website rather than have it hosted
by Calico, as is the case with the present site. Jamie has confirmed
that this would bring a significant advantage with regard to Plexus'
Maintenance of the new site.
Plexus' proposed charge for hosting is about £130 less than we
currently pay Calico for all their services including domain
registration and the @transitionblackisle email system. My concerns
were a degree of reluctance to end a long-standing relationship with
Calico, and the need to maintain the email system.
The latest proposal from Plexus is that Calico could continue to
provide domain registration and the email system, which would maintain
a degree of relationship with them, while Plexus would host the
website. I have discussed this with Kirsty Pryer at Calico, and she
said that although they would obviously prefer to continue hosting the
TBI site, they would accept the proposed arrangement and it would not
cause any bad feelings.
The financial implications, as far as I can ascertain them, are as
follows (all figures include VAT)
Latest (2020) payment to Calico for domain registration, website
hosting and email 342.00
(includes £30 annual charge for SSL security certificate, added
September 2018;
this is included in the Plexus hosting charge below)
Likely payment to Calico if they continue to host website (Wordpress
hosting is cheaper) 258.00
Proposed Plexus charge for website hosting 144.00
Proposed Calico charge for domain registration and email system 36.00
Total annual charge under proposed new arrangement 180.00

Recommendation
As it appears to have definite practical advantages and would enable
us to maintain a degree of relationship with Calico, I propose that we
adopt the combined Plexus - Calico arrangement outlined above. The
fact that it will save us £162 a year is a bonus.
