A ½ day Seminar looking at practice changes that lie ahead for those
working with people with incapacity

These ½ day training seminars will be led by Sandra McDonald, the
Public Guardian for Scotland who will outline significant changes and
developments to future working practices in relation to protecting and
safeguarding people with incapacity.
The seminar will offer 3 hours of verifiable CPD and will cover:

Professional Guardians Scheme - Sandra will outline the way OPG
intend to undertake the supervision of professional guardian’s
accounts, what it will involve and the benefits it will offer.
*
United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with
Disabilities (UNCRPD) - The report of the Essex Autonomy project
(published on 6 June) will recommend changes that are required to
bring us to a situation of compliance. Sandra will précis all of
this and suggest what sort of practice changes this may be
‘pointing towards’.

Delayed Discharged pilot - Scottish Government is currently
running a pilot in the central belt to expedite the discharge from
hospital of people with incapacity awaiting a guardianship order
and depending on findings this may be ‘rolled out’. Sandra will
outline the pilot’s early findings, focusing on what changes this
may have for practice.

Graded Guardianship - Not a new concept but one that is gathering
‘ahead off steam'. This is an opportunity for practitioners to
consider implications for them and their clients.
*
Adults with Incapacity Scottish Government consultation - The
seminar is an opportunity to consider the outcome of the recent
consultation and what it means for practitioners.
*
Deprivation of Liberty - What does this mean for practitioners and
practice?
Seminar Outcomes When delegates register to attend one of the seminars
they will be asked to indicate their particular areas of interest to
enable Sandra to prioritise structuring the seminar to meet their
needs.
Seminar notes and copies of slides will be provided for verification
purposes and the seminar will have clear outcomes against which
evaluation will be possible.
