Below is the information you would need to complete a lesson plan for
the cycle approach including the lesson plan and summary instructions.
The summary instructions are in italics and are simply a brief
description of each heading and of the information needed under each
heading.
PHONOLOGICAL THERAPY PLAN

Objectives of the Week:
This would be stated something like this: To facilitate emergence of
____ through the target ___. The first blank represents the overall
process such as stridency, initial consonants, final consonants
clusters, etc.
Probe for New Targets (if first session of first cycle):

Review words from last session:
If this was the first session, you would not have review words. You
would list the probe words for your new target. You should have about
ten words, all within the vocabulary of a preschool child and all
should be easily pictured.
Target for Bombardment
You should list about twenty words to be used in the bombardment
activity. These don't have to be easily pictured but should not be too
complex for a child's comprehension. Remember, the child is not
required to produce the words, but simply listen through the
headphones.
Bombardment Activity (+ 2 minutes):
List the quiet activity you will have the child engage in while
listening to you produce the words. If the activity is not widely
known, provide a brief explanation.
Production Targets (2 to 6 words or phrases):
You should list five words that you intend to work on in this session.
These words are chosen from the probe list that the child produced in
the first part of the session. Choose words that child was able to
produce correctly. (You may decide which of those the child was able
to produce. In an actual therapy situation, the data would lead you to
the target selection.)
Evoking Techniques:
This is the really important part of the lesson plan. This is where
the "tricks of the trade" come into play. You would list here the
techniques you would use to get the child to produce the target. You
may use any resources to come up with this information. I will suggest
a couple of books for your use. Also, look to the graduate students
for assistance. They should be familiar with the "how-to's" of
articulation therapy. If you plan to use a mirror, tongue depressors,
gloves, life-savers, cotton swabs, etc., these materials should be
listed here.
Activities:
Drill (Maximum of 2 word repetitions):
No activity is needed for this section. You may leave it blank. It is
used for you to take notes during the session.
Communication Activities:
List activities here and label as listed on the assignment.If the
activity is unfamiliar to most readers, write out a brief explanation.
If you are using a game like HI-HO CHERRY-O, you may just list the
game, if you are sure most individuals are familiar with it. Also,
describe how you will elicit or stimulate the target words with the
various activities.
Generalization Probe:
In this section, you choose about five words containing the therapy
targets that you did not train during the session. You combine these
with the five or so words you did train and you do an imitation probe.
This will give you some information about how well the child
generalized the new speech target.
Second Bombardment Activity:
Here you would simply indicate that the same word list will be used
for the bombardment activity.
Probe Words:
You should determine 10 probe words for the next target (either a
phoneme from the same process as this session or a target from the
next process) and list them in this space.
Homework:
Outline, briefly, what you want the parents to do regarding review.
You may want them to have the child produce the words each day using
the cards made in therapy. You may want them to simply read the list
of bombardment words to the child each day. Or you may want to be as
thorough as possible, and have the parents do both.
